Evidence of Nature
Artwork by Constance Kiermaier. On view in the Curtis Gallery from March 31 - May 8.
This show is a sampling of a large body of work Constance Kiermaier has created that speaks to “Evidence of Nature,” a constant theme in her work and life.
As an artist who is approaching her 90th year, she is more aware than ever that the themes and concepts that she has addressed visually over many years are becoming more defined. The result is that she has begun to revisit these ideas in a new and more informed way.
There is an excitement in the new ideas that springs from the foundation of the old ones, creating stronger and simpler images that are, she hopes, as fresh as the subjects she draws upon. Her Forest for example, a very striking and unusual work, closely relates to new, smaller works such as Slivers and Tondo with Onion Skin.
It is a pleasure to note the skills and materials she brings to her work—monotype, mixed media collage, encaustic, and paint on a variety of interesting surfaces. We hope you will enjoy the opportunity to view this personal and exciting work Kiermaier has created.
