We are fortunate to have a beautiful gallery at our Library featuring a rotating 6 week art exhibition juried and curated by the Art Committee of New Canaan Library. The gallery, the art within, and our dedicated volunteer committee make the H. Pelham Curtis Gallery truly special. This is the ideal place to discover new local artists.

About the Curtis Gallery
In 1955, Friends of New Canaan Library first brought the excitement of the contemporary art scene to the community with a show of 30 pieces by the artists Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol, and others, loaned by local collectors. Twenty-five years and many shows later, the tireless dedication of the Art Committee eventually resulted in the founding of the H. Pelham Curtis Gallery with a gift given to the Library by the Pelham family. More than 200 exhibits followed the first Gallery show, which featured works by Picasso, Corot, Juan Gris, and Pissaro, in a special, grand opening exhibit. The Gallery truly makes the library a community cultural center. The tradition of exhibiting fine art by working artists in the Library continues through the efforts of the Friends Art Committee, co-chaired by Micaela Porta and Mary Moross. Togther they bring a broad range of experience and expertise to curating the Galley exhibits.
